Year 4, Round 2

It’s hard to believe, but a little over four years ago, I started a journey. This journey sounded simple enough – an application to join a panel of talented professionals who shared their passion with an inquisitive community of individuals from all over the globe and all walks of life.

Since that year, I have gained many things – insight on an exciting (and emotional) process, advice from current and prospective panelists, and lastly, but perhaps the most valuable – enduring and deep friendships.

This year, I am honored and excited to once again join the second round applicants to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. With three years of R2 experience under my belt, I feel a mix of both veteran confidence and optimistic excitement.

I plan to share as many details on the 2015 Recruitment Season as possible (after closing timelines), but am also glad to answer any questions, too! So, without further ado, here’s a little bit about the process so far:

ROUND 1: Tuesday, September 2 through Friday, September 5

ROUND 2: Tuesday, October 21 noon through Monday, October 27 -includes seven essay questions and a video submission

ROUND 3 & BEYOND: ?? To be revealed* ???

TRAINING: All new panelists are required to attend training at the Walt Disney World Resort, potential dates include December 10-15, 2014.

I am excited to join in for another cycle of FUN – and no matter what the outcome is this year, it’s sure to be a magical experience.

* In the past, Round 3 was a phone interview, and new panelists were drawn from this round.

Why I want to be a Disney “MOM.”

Me and my mom on the “Around the World” Segway Tour, 2009 – part of my 2012 applicant video!

Since I created this blog, I’ve received so many wonderful and positive notes of support and encouragement from dozens of people that I have not yet met.It really has been an honor sharing my adventures – from sharing the anxiety, to offering a sneak peek into the process and even learning a little bit more about the Walt Disney Company itself!

But there’s only ONE question from people I already know that keeps getting asked:

Don’t you have to be a mom?”

To this, I’ve offered many explanations – from explaining the overall objective of the Moms Panel, to putting my own story into perspective – but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it would be a fantastic subject to blog about.

So here it goes…

  • While it is INDEED called the Disney MOMS Panel, this talented group of individuals is comprised of many different kinds of people – from moms, to dads, aunts – anyone with a passion for Disney and the drive to help others.
  • I like to think of MOM as not only the title of some pretty cool ladies (my mom definitely topping the list) I also think of it as an acronym for Maker of Magic! Whether you’re helping guests plan an awesome vacation or suggesting a tip to preserve family memories, being a MOM is all about sharing your love!!
  • Although I currently do not have any little ones to call my own (not even furry ones) – ETA: this has changed, as of 2013, we adopted DUG! – that does not mean I never will – in fact, I am incredibly excited at the idea of planning our first vacation as a family larger than two one day – and the connections made now with the many MOMs from all walks of life now will surely prove priceless in years to come.

In a nutshell, I truly believe that my unique perspective as a Disney fan, daughter, wife, friend, runner and former cast member all complement my definition of MOM! As we move forward through the application process, I am as proud as ever to be participating in it all – with or without kids of my own 🙂

Tell me about your family!

Applying for the #runDisney Specialist

After the first page of Moms Panel application questions, panel applicants move forward to questions specific to their “specialty” areas . For me, that was runDisney!

runDisney questions

These questions focused on running experience, as well as runDisney experience. I was sure to include the races that I had already participated in, as well as the future events on my race calendar! This was an excellent opportunity to not only showcase my enthusiasm for the sport itself, but my take on the sheer excitement that surrounds runDisney events!

After I had my responses entered (typed in a word processing program, reviewed, then re-typed into the web application form, of course) I clicked “submit” and waited for my confirmation e-mail! Another exciting Moms Panel Application season had officially begun!

Have you ever run a runDisney race? If you haven’t, which would you choose as your first?
