Bucket List Item #8…

Run around the Boardwalk.

One of the cool things about Walt Disney World is that it doesn’t even have to be a race weekend to see a runner or two, logging some miles around the resort. On our last visit, we stayed at the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, conveniently located nearby the Downtown Disney entertainment, dining and shopping district – in fact, it was close enough that there was pathway that you could walk, jog or run on, making a pretty even 2+ mile loop!

Now, that resort is not alone in featuring safe, paved trails for guests – check this resource for that – but I have to say, it’s easy to see what path is definitely one of the most attractive: the loop that takes you past Disney’s Boardwalk and around Crescent Lake!

You might be asking yourself at this point: wait, aren’t you running the marathon? And if so, don’t you run around here during the race? And if so, why is this included on the list? Well, my inquisitive readers – you are right! I am running the marathon and the course does in fact traverse the Yacht & Beach Club side of the lake, but here’s where I will offer a bit more explanation…

I included this bucket list experience because, let’s face it: in the time period between Sunday, January 13 and the following Sunday, January 20th, I have 42.4 miles of racing to do. That might sound like quite a bit of miles, but, truth be told, (wo)man cannot exist on race miles alone. I plan on waking at a decent time, the morning after the marathon and setting out on 1-2 miles of shake-out running to jump start my Monday before enjoying breakfast at Cape May Cafe.

I think my legs will thank me in the long run (pun intended)!

Do you run/exercise on vacation?
